Philosophers are often thought of as old, weird, and boring folks who argue about matters that have nothing to do with practical affairs.
But that’s not a whole truth.
For me a philosopher is a person who doesn’t take things for granted, a philosopher is a person who keeps digging ground until he find something solid, a philosopher is a person who is not satisfied with the superficial answers and sought after greater meaning of life.
In essence, a philosopher is a person who take up the challenge that life presents to each of us.
What is this challenge?
Life presents its challenge in the form of questions. These questions have occupied people’s mind for thousands of years. Philosophers are the people who attempt to answer these big questions of life.
Here are the questions that life presents each one of us:
- What is the purpose of our life?
- How should we live our life?
- How should we treat other people?
- What is our relationship with other beings?
- What is the reality of the world around us?
- What is our place in the universe?
- Does God exist?
- Are we free in our actions and thoughts?
Anyone who engages with these big questions can become a philosopher, but it also needs courage to see life in the eyes and face its challenges head-on.
What other skills you should have in order to become a philosopher?
Every answer is appreciated!

To become a philosopher, one must first of all be genuinely interested in philosophical questions and be open minded. The skills needed for philosophical thinking, in my opinion, are analytical skills, critical thinking skills, and sometimes creative thinking.
